Holy crap a blog post

Yes, it is I. Returning from the horrid trenches of school exams. Only for a minute, I'm afraid. Here is another postacular post from my Screwattack blog:

Hello g1s, and welcome to my blog. This post in particular will take you back in time, to the far away year of 2005. Sit tight, and we'll take a look back at...

Jet Set Radio Future

Photobucket

Not a very well known game, which is a shame because JSRF is positively one of the best games for the original Xbox. My first experience with this game was in 2005, Easter time. We just got an Xbox, which came with a bundle of two games: Jet Set Radio Future and SEGA GT 2002. Both games were fun in their own way, but I'm going to talk about the former.

Sequel to Jet Set Radio, and released February 28, 2002 in North America for the Xbox exclusively, JSRF takes place in the year 2024, in Japan. A group of roller skaters called the GGs are trying to gain control over other skaters turf. In between all this, the Rokkaku Police, lead by Hayashi, formed by Rokkaku Goji, are trying to stop you from spraying your graffiti (which is how you gain your turf). Goji's plan is to rid Tokyo of all freedom of speech and expression. Enough backstory.

You start the game as Yoyo, a young man who is interested in joining the GGs. The GGs consist of Roboy, a robot, Gum, and Corn, the leader. You start a tutorial, show you how to grind, and spray graffiti. You then listen to a pirate radio broadcast hosted by DJ Professor K. He comes in now and again to give you important information, and to laugh at you when you die. You skate through various towns, covering the streets with graffiti, which can be customized, or unlocked by collecting graffiti souls. Awesome locations such as Dogenzaka Hill, 99th Street and the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility can be visited. There are also 21 unlockable characters to play as, along with those mentioned above.

Not only is the game fun to play, it's fun to look at. Using the cel-shading technique, it looks absolutely wonderful. But, arguably the best part of the game is the soundtrack. Songs by Guitar Vader (Who previously worked on Jet Set Radio, or Jet Grind Radio) and Hideki Naganuma (who worked on Jet Set Radio, Ollie King, and Sonic Rush) make the game that much more fun. You could listen to the soundtrack for hours. I have!

So, if you have it, go play it again! You'll find it will be much more fun now than it was then. If you don't have it, you should. If you don't have and Xbox, don't worry. It is backwards compatible with the Xbox 360. It's a great game, that gets better over time.

This is Matthew saying, Go play it again!
