BONUS UPDATE!
NEWS ABOUT ZOMBIE MOVIE
Screenplay is being written, characters will be cast, and other miscellaneous things such as background music and the title are being or already decided. The title is Xombi. Original, I know. Gist of the plot is that some kids are the only ones in their town alive. Zombies galore. Fun, huh? Sadly filming will probably not start until summer. Good news is that it'll be the bloodiest thing since Kill Bill. Maybe not, but it'll be bloody alright.

YAY!
We all love video games, and a lot of us, I assume, love movies. Mix them together, and you get an epic combination, right? Well, maybe. Imagine you hear about a video game movie coming out in the near future. Then you hear that it will be directed by Uwe Boll. Ugh. For my first Video Game Movie Review, I'll take a look at 2005's movie adaptation of Alone in the Dark.
Alone in the Dark stars Christian Slater and Tara Reid and was directed by Uwe Boll. The story is more based on Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare than the original trilogy. It focuses on Edward Carnby (the main character from the games) and his trying to discover what happened at the orphanage he grew up in after he lost his memory.
The film opens with a flashback to when Edward was ten, hiding from people with an agenda he doesn't agree with. They tell the Sister in charge of the orphanage to call the police and say all twenty of the children are missing. We cut to Edward waking up on plane, when he then proceeds to traumatize a young child beside him. We find out Edward has an artifact that belonged to an ancient Native American civilization that have importance to the plot later on.
Now, you see, Edward used to belong to an organization called Bureau 713. Bureau 713 was an organization who researched paranormal activity. Another member of this group was one Dr. Hudgens. He is now seen telling someone to kill Edward and get the artifact. So, Edward gets off the plane, gets in a taxi and has a wonderful conversation, when he notices another taxi has been following him for a while, now.
Action ensues. A car chase, followed by a fight scene ending up with a bullet riddled crazy man being impaled. Just like in the games, right? Well, Edward gets home and looks at his artifact. I'm going to skip ahead a bit to make it not boring. Hudgens finds another artifact he was looking for. In a crate made of gold. The captain of the ship he is on is greedy and decides to open it. This is a bad idea, apparently, beacause everyone on board gets slaughtered by an invisible, uh, thing. Except for Hudgens, who is thrown into another room.
Those invisible things are the main worry of the heroes. They are called Xenoes. Or Zenoes, or Xenos, whatever. They don't like light. They can disrupt light sources, save for the Sun. That makes it hard to not only see, but kill them. Now, alongside Edward, there is also Aline Cedrac and Commander Burke to help. But in the case of Aline, Tara Ried's character, 'help' is more like 'horrible acting'. Honestly, I don't usually see a lot of bad actors/actresses, but I hated when she even opened her mouth. Can't stand her.
After a creepy first encounter between Edward and the Xenoes, every other time we see a monster, the bullets start flying. That does not a good horror movie make. So, they find where the Xenoes are staying, and shoot 'em up. I forgot to mention that the nineteen other orphans are now killers that can't be killed unless a worm on their spine is. I don't even know. Also Hudgens is somehow behind everything. And the ending? I just don't know.
This movie is not as bad as they say it is. It's bad, of course, but not as bad as other movies. I guess it's the effects. They are really good, I found. Not as good as they could have been, but the monsters looked pretty cool. The other actors and actresses weren't too bad. Christian was great. Tara was horrible. Whoever played Hudgens was a bit over the top at times, but it's all good.
I wouldn't recommend this film to someone who would expect it to be good. It's a movie you watch to see how bad it is, then laugh at it. That's the sole reason I even bought it. Well, thus ends my first movie review. A new Look Back At... will be here soon, so look for that in the following month.
This is a title
Hello again g1s! I hoped you all enjoyed my first entry on this series, and by the comments and votes, I gathered some of you did. I was going to wait a while longer to write this, but I just finished exams, and I need something to get my mind away from school related activities. Today we will be taking a look at...
Mega Man Xtreme 2
Many of you may or may not remember this one. Mega Man Xtreme 2 (or MX2 as I will call it from now on) is a sequel to, what else, Mega Man Xtreme. Both games were released on the Gameboy Color. MX2, or Rockman X2: Soul Eraser in Japan, was released October 30, 2001 in North America. It takes place (obviously) after Mega Man Xtreme, both taking place in between Mega Man X3 and 4.
The gist of the story is that Reploids all over the Earth are losing their DNA Souls, which are being used to make an army of Mavericks. Our heroes, X and Zero (along with new friend Iris) travel to Laguz Island to stop them. But, who is leading the army of Mavericks? Berkana, a former Reploid Researcher, and partner Gareth, who's origin is unknown. But it seems someone else is behind them...
The game is what you would expect from a Mega Man X game. You run, jump, dash, wall jump, and kill stuff. Unlike the first Mega Man Xtreme, you can play as Zero in MX2. The thing is, if you play as X, Zero doesn't get the power-up from the boss or vice-versa. The bosses include:
-Blast Hornet
-Flame Mammoth
-Launch Octopus
-Neon Tiger
-Overdrive Ostrich
-Tunnel Rhino
-Volt Catfish
-Wire Sponge
Those are the main bosses, but there are also "Skullhead", the first boss enemy encountered, Isaz and Sowilo, a sphinx/tank thing with a drill, and Velguarder, a wolf. If you make it through Extreme mode, beating all eight bosses, you get to fight Berkana or Gareth, depending on if you are playing as X or Zero. After that, the mastermind behind it all is revealed. Who else? Sigma. After you beat the game, you unlock Boss Attack, in which you can fight all the bosses from not only MX2, but the original Xtreme.
The fight with Sigma has a history with me. Me and my family were driving home from my grandparent's house, and I brought this game along to pass the time (it was a long drive). I had gotten to Sigma before, but never managed to kill him. You can guess what happened. I finally bet him, and that whole day, I felt so happy.
As for graphics and music, not much can be said. Not bad, but not groundbreaking. The graphics are almost just like the SNES X series, but more Gameboy-ish. Same to be said about the music. Also, the sound effects are on par with the console version as well.
Well, this is Matthew saying, Go play it again!

Holy crap a blog post
Hello g1s, and welcome to my blog. This post in particular will take you back in time, to the far away year of 2005. Sit tight, and we'll take a look back at...
Jet Set Radio Future
Not a very well known game, which is a shame because JSRF is positively one of the best games for the original Xbox. My first experience with this game was in 2005, Easter time. We just got an Xbox, which came with a bundle of two games: Jet Set Radio Future and SEGA GT 2002. Both games were fun in their own way, but I'm going to talk about the former.
Sequel to Jet Set Radio, and released February 28, 2002 in North America for the Xbox exclusively, JSRF takes place in the year 2024, in Japan. A group of roller skaters called the GGs are trying to gain control over other skaters turf. In between all this, the Rokkaku Police, lead by Hayashi, formed by Rokkaku Goji, are trying to stop you from spraying your graffiti (which is how you gain your turf). Goji's plan is to rid Tokyo of all freedom of speech and expression. Enough backstory.
You start the game as Yoyo, a young man who is interested in joining the GGs. The GGs consist of Roboy, a robot, Gum, and Corn, the leader. You start a tutorial, show you how to grind, and spray graffiti. You then listen to a pirate radio broadcast hosted by DJ Professor K. He comes in now and again to give you important information, and to laugh at you when you die. You skate through various towns, covering the streets with graffiti, which can be customized, or unlocked by collecting graffiti souls. Awesome locations such as Dogenzaka Hill, 99th Street and the Tokyo Underground Sewage Facility can be visited. There are also 21 unlockable characters to play as, along with those mentioned above.
Not only is the game fun to play, it's fun to look at. Using the cel-shading technique, it looks absolutely wonderful. But, arguably the best part of the game is the soundtrack. Songs by Guitar Vader (Who previously worked on Jet Set Radio, or Jet Grind Radio) and Hideki Naganuma (who worked on Jet Set Radio, Ollie King, and Sonic Rush) make the game that much more fun. You could listen to the soundtrack for hours. I have!
So, if you have it, go play it again! You'll find it will be much more fun now than it was then. If you don't have it, you should. If you don't have and Xbox, don't worry. It is backwards compatible with the Xbox 360. It's a great game, that gets better over time.
This is Matthew saying, Go play it again!

Big post
I have read a couple of retrospects, so I felt I should write one on myself. Here goes nothing:
My story begins when I was three. Now, I was young, so I didn't understand the whole "video game" concept. It didn't matter. One glorious day, I saw my dad hooking something up in the living room that was by my room in the basement.
It was a brand new Nintendo Entertainment System. Complete with controller and the best game at the time, the Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt bundle cartridge. I was overwhelmed. I didn't know what it was, but I didn't care. I played that thing until my fingers hurt.
The months went by, and all the time "wasted", as some would say, on that beautiful gray box, it quickly went away. The poor old girl broke down and like a horse with a bum leg, we put her down. Or rather, we gave it away to someone who enjoys harvesting the broken dreams of children.
My life was video gameless. Nothing to do but sit in a chair and watch TV, I was bored. Years passed. I made friends in school, and people that moved into the neighborhood quickly became my pals. I had fun playing with my friends, I forgot video games existed half the time, but one Christmas, something unbelievable happened. I got a Gameboy Color. Complete with Pokemon Crystal.
Again, I played for hours a day, only stopping to eat and sleep, and of course the annoying fact of having to go to school. I loved that Gameboy with all my heart, and as the years went on, my game collection piled up, good and bad games alike. My holy grail was Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, along with the aforementioned Pokemon Crystal. But guess what? God hates happy kids so not one, but both games were lost. To this day I can't find them, but as luck would have it, I found a copy of Crystal at a yard sale.
Well, replaying Dragon's Lair twenty times a day gets boring after a while, so the Gameboy lost my interest. Every so often, I would walk over to my friend's house, and we'd play some N64. I pined for a console for myself, but to no avail. Later on that friend would move. No more N64. But, what's this? An Xbox? That's not from Nintendo, is it? But who cares? This is fun! Jet Set Radio Future and SEGA GT 2002 satisfied my video game lust for a long time. More games arrived, such as Star Wars Battlefront, and Halo 2. But soon, my interest left the building.
Christmas is a magical time, especially if you receive a Gameboy Advance (SP) along with several games. Games come over the next couple of years, interests are gained and lost. We get an old Playstation from old family friends, games are bought on eBay. A DS comes along after money is saved. Then, the ultimate announcement. Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. I needed one of them. After months of saving money for a PSP, I ditched the idea for a 360. Guess what? I got it. Guess what else? After school was finished, a gift arrived. A Wii.
It is now January 16th, 2009. My 360 lays on my shelf, ready to serve my gaming lust.Playstation alongside my TV. My DS, GBA SP, and my faithful old GBC lay in my drawer aside my controllers. And the Wii. It lays were it's great grandfather did once before.
I love video games.
